Well, it’s a new year and here I am making a cliche. Not really, but setting goals for the year is a lot like resolutions. Technically though I guess it is really the intent that counts… Not a vague impression of “I will create more this year” but rather something more concrete and specifically attainable. At least that is what I’m gonna tell myself.
So that said, my first goal for 2022 is going to be to explore more AI-assisted generative art. I created the original version of my “Robot Noir” digital art that way and I think it turned out pretty good. I did some work on it after it was “created” to make it what it is but it was still generated programmatically by AI. At any rate, I would like to continue to experiment with both impressionist and abstract styles to see where that takes the artwork.
Another goal with digital art that I have for the upcoming year is to create some original artwork in a completely digital method. I have previously converted and enhanced a few of my oil paintings digitally but I want to try my hand at creating some completely through digital methods that are not programmatically generated but completely by hand. It’s looking like it may be a painstaking process since I am basically learning by doing and will likely take up many more hours, at least in the beginning, than painting it with oil paint first. In any case, I am looking forward to the experience.
Of course, I am still going to be working on regular artwork such as painting and drawing. My goal with that is to do at least one per month. I have been very sporadic with it in the past so I look forward to doing more and getting better. I think that considering I still work full time in Information Technology that this amount seems doable along with my other endeavors.
My last main goal for this year is to work on my writing. I have quite a few ideas that I have been meanderingly working on for quite a while. My intent now is to work on the actual writing of the stories I’ve been toying with. I have six short stories I have decided on, which gives me two months per story to write them. Since I am hoping for about 10,000 words each, I think it would be good practice in actual writing and should set me up quite well in preparation for writing a full novel.
We’ll see how it goes. I am pretty confident that these are very achievable goals even though some adjustments for detail will happen along the way.
